Want
to hear something scary? Due to water and air pollution in the Arctic
Region, there are towns in Greenland where there are no boys being
born. Also, in the US, boys are underperforming in school, and female
college students now outnumber males by 50%. The Potomac River is
so filled with pollutants called endocrine disruptors that 80% of
male smallmouth bass are laying eggs. And these same chemicals are
believed to be a cause of a surge in birth deformities in boys in
the region.
Does
this mean it's time for Men's Studies courses? We'll discuss that
with Professor Miles Groth of Wagner College, an editor at MenStudies.com,
a scholarly publishing company of Men Studies journals and books.
Publications include Debating Masculinity, International
Journal of Men's Health, and Thymos: Journal of Boyhood Studies.
The
Men's Studies Press
Founded in 1992, the Men's Studies Press (MSP) is a small independent
publisher dedicated to the dissemination and promotion of men's studies
scholars' work.
Dr. Miles
Groth, whose mantra is "The boy is father to the man," from
the Brithish poet Williams Wordsworth.

Congratulations
Senator Franken!
Al Franken has finally been sworn in as the second U.S. Senator from
the state of Minnesota, and becomes the first comedian (in his words,
"a satirist") to serve in the Senate. Former Air America Radio
host and Saturday Night Live writer and actor, Al Franken is a passionate,
articulate, and thoughtful man, and a personal friend of the late Senator
Paul Wellstone, whose untimely death was a tragedy and a loss to not
only Minnesotans, but to the whole country.

speech courtesy of The Uptake, shot by Noah Kunin.
