Episode
12: Dec. 15, 2008 - The Tokens and The Uptake
I was fortunate to have Phil Margo of The
Tokens on an earlier episode, and this week we have BOTH Phil and
his brother Mitch. Their list of musical accomplishments is too long
to list here ("The Lion Sleeps Tonight," "He's So Fine,"
Tony Orlando, to name a few). These guys are unbelievably multi-talented,
and in addition to talking about music and politics, we hear about Mitch's
literacy program MargoReader.com,
and get a sneak preview of Phil's sci-fi novel The Null Quotient
that is due out in the spring of 2009.
I also speak
with Executive Director Jason Barnett of The Uptake. The Uptake is a
St. Paul based independent news outlet that is known for providing live
streaming video of events that the mainstream media either ignores,
insufficiently covers, or wants to cover up. Gaining a strong reputation
for its coverage and activism during the RNC, The Uptake is pioneering
the use of live cell phone video on the web.

Yes, those are actual fried grasshoppers. Just put a few on a chip,
add some guacamole, and ....ah, who am I kidding, they are pretty nasty.
